Various on-campus resources are available for students to enhance their academic experience. The college strongly encourages students to take advantage of these opportunities. The resources listed below are just some of the many resources available to University of Maryland students.

Academic Achievement Programs (AAP)

  • Academic Achievement Programs (AAP) are federally funded programs which provide academic support to first-generation, low-income college students. AAP concentrates its efforts on tutoring, mathematics, English, reading, and college study skills development. Some tutoring available for all UMD students in high-risk courses.

  • The Feller Center in the College of Behavioral & Social Sciences is a co-located hub for academic advising and career planning services. The Center offers customized career planning resources for BSOS students.

Math Department

  • The math department has free walk-in tutoring for all 100-200 level math courses. Students should check with their instructor or stop by the undergraduate math office to pick up a copy of the semester's tutoring schedule. Additionally, review sessions are offered by Math Department staff for "hour" exams. Old math exams can be obtained by going to the website listed above. Finally, Math Learning Assistance provides workshops and individual meetings to help students struggling with math.

  • The Math Success Program is an undergraduate peer math coaching program. Free tutoring in math, specifically focused on MATH003, 113, and 115, are available.

Writing Center

  • The Writing Center offers trained tutors to help students improve their writing. A tutor will work with students to clarify assignments, explore ideas and topics, plan and organize papers, determine strategies for revision, correct grammatical problems, and ease writing anxieties. Call ahead for an appointment. In addition to The Writing Center, the Grammar Hotline is available to answer questions about word choice, punctuation, sentence structure, or proper citation.

Tutoring Database

University Libraries

  • There are seven libraries on campus, with a combined collection of over 2.3 million volumes and approximately 26,000 serial titles, which support educational and research efforts on the College Park campus. The following services are available to campus students needing assistance with library research: electronic interlibrary loan, photocopy services, study rooms, VICTOR, and other online indexes. New library schedules are distributed each semester.

Study Abroad Office

  • The Study Abroad Office provides information about study, travel, and work in other countries. Students can obtain assistance with funding, transfer credits, pre-registration, housing, and other issues relating to study abroad.

University Health Center

  • Wellness is the process of becoming aware of, and making choices toward, a more balanced, healthy life. Wellness counseling is available at the Center for Health & Wellbeing by appointment and during walk-in hours. Services available include stress management, communication, conflict resolution, weight management, sleep, study skills, test anxiety, exercise and fitness, concerns about relationships, eating concerns, and more.

The Psychology Clinic

  • The Psychology Clinic offers year-round, sliding-fee scale services across the lifespan for Depression, Anxiety, Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorders, Relationship/Interpersonal Problems, Emotional and Behavioral Disorders, and Problems with Stress and Coping. Services include individual and couples/marital psychotherapy and psychoeducational assessment, such as LD/IQ/ADHD. The Psychology Clinic is staffed by Licensed Clinical Psychologists, Clinical Program Faculty Members, and graduate students from the Doctoral Program in Clinical Psychology.

Counseling Center

  • Many students encounter a variety of personal, social, career, and academic issues that call for assistance beyond advice provided by friends and family. The Counseling Center provides free and confidential services by professional counselors to all University of Maryland students. Students may schedule an appointment by phone or in- person, or may visit during applicable walk-in hours (posted on the website above).

Campus Advocates Respond and Educate to Stop Violence (CARE)

  • Provides free, confidential advocacy and therapy services to primary and secondary survivors of sexual assault, relationship violence, stalking, and sexual harassment, while simultaneously empowering the campus community to prevent violence through educational presentations, events, and outreach activities.

  • A free peer-counseling and crisis intervention hotline. No problem is too big too small, call to talk about anything or receive information about other resources.

Office of Multi-Ethnic Student Education (OMSE)

  • OMSE provides opportunities to enhance academic performance and social and interpersonal relationships, with a focus towards multi-ethnic students. OMSE provides tutoring, review sessions, study groups, computer labs, college success prep programs, a mentoring program, and a number of social and cultural activities for our diverse campus population.

  • For those uncertain about their career direction, the University Career Center offers career assessments, career planning and job search courses, and appointments with career professionals. For those ready to begin a job or internship search, they have tools like Careers4Terps for 24-hour access to job listings, on-campus-interviewing, and resume referral. The University Career Center assists in how to conduct a job search, helps identify more resources for job announcements, critique resumes, and more. In addition, the Center houses a Resource Room and offers an Internship Seminar and Credentials Service.
